The Australian won the IBO title and came in second in the IBF rankings
Former World Lightweight Champion George Kambosos (21-2, 10 KOs) defeated the British Maxi Hughes (26–6–2, 5 KOs).
The fight took place in the American city of Shawnee at the Firelake Arena. The fight went on for 12 rounds. As a result, the opinions of the judges were divided. Two gave the advantage to Kambosos (117:111, 115, 113), one judge recorded a draw (114:114).
The Australian won the IBO lightweight title. Also, George became the second number in the IBF ranking, which allows him to fight for the vacant title against the rating leader Argentine Gustavo Lemos.
Kambosos had his previous fight in October 2022 in Melbourne. The Australian lost for the second time to Devin Haney and was unable to regain the lightweight titles.
