Brazilian Gilbert Durinho Pays Reward to ‘Avenger’ Adrian Yanez for Victory Over Tony Kelley; American got involved in controversy with statement about Brazilian fighters
Gilbert Durinho want to pay a bonus to the fighter Adrian Yanez for the victory over Tony Kelley, last Saturday, 18th. The reward was promised after the carioca guaranteed on social networks that he would pay the amount if the American, who called Brazilian athletes ‘cheating’, was defeated in the octagon. Yanez’s victory over his compatriot, in the UFC in Austin, came by TKO in the first round.
On social media, Durinho made a call for Adrian Yanez to accept the bonus for the victory in UFC Kattar vs Emmett: “Come on, my friends. Let’s put pressure on Adrian Yanez to accept the money. He does not want. It’s been a struggle.” wrote the Brazilian on his official Twitter profile.

After the campaign raised on social networks, the American fighter accepted the bonus offered by the Brazilian, thanked him and already revealed the plan to spend the money received for the victory: “MThank you very much, Gilbert Durinho. I will spend it with my son. I really appreciate it,” replied Yanez in a post on Twitter.

During the break from the first to the second round of the fight between Andrea Lee and Viviane Araújo, Kelley received Lee in the corner and, annoyed, stated that Brazilian fighters are “dirty and cheaters”. After the statement, the fighter received a wave of criticism on social media, including lines of repudiation by Cris Cyborg and Gilbert Durinho.
Before the fight last Saturday, Yanez even commented that Kelley’s speech motivated him to seek victory. After the various criticisms from the MMA world, the American apologized and denied the racist nature of his speech. In an interview with the “Cageside Press” channel, he lamented the repercussion of the case:
Congrats @yanezmma enjoy 🤑🤑 you deserved! #UFCAustin 🇺🇸

“People feel like I’m blaming cancel culture or something. No, ultimately I’m talking shit about cancel culture, because my job is to relay information in the corner. I’m not focused on whether I’m going to offend someone or not. That’s the last thing on my mind. If you watch the fight, you’ll never hear it. It didn’t air. Someone cut this and sent it to the Twitterverse.” said Kelley.
“Of course I said that, but obviously I said it wrong and everyone who knows me knows that. But just to give a little clarification, it was just in relation to a finger in the eye, I don’t want to categorize the entire nation of Brazil. I think most people understand that, but there are other people who just want to play the victim. In fact, I don’t like everyone equally, I’ll put it that way. I think I answered everything, much love to my Brazilian fans and friends. If you didn’t like what I said, I don’t know what to tell you about it, sorry. Sorry if you hurt your feelings.” completed.
