Double Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Roman Vlasov will not perform at the World Championships in Belgrade due to injury, it was decided to keep him, Russian Wrestling Federation President Mikhail Mamiashvili told .
Earlier, national Greco-Roman wrestling team head coach Gogi Koguashvili said that Vlasov will miss the tournament, which will be held from September 16 to 24 in Serbia’s capital.
– Roman is in the team, but he is injured, we decided to keep him. Therefore, he will not perform (at the World Championships), Mamiashvili told .
Vlasov won gold at the 2012 Games in London and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The 32-year-old athlete also has three victories at the world championships, four at the European championships.
In April, United World of Wrestling (UWW) admitted Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status.
