President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili told that the proposal of the committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine takes international sport back to the Middle Ages.
Previously, the Youth and Sports Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine proposed that international federations cancel mandatory handshakes and bows at competitions where Ukrainians face Russian or Belarusian athletes.
– All semantic load is lost, you can return to the Middle Ages. The whole point of the Olympic movement is tolerance and mutual respect, whatever happens. The most important thing there is is mutual respect, not even a pedestal. What is important is the desire to be one and to feel like the inhabitants of planet Earth. If not, then what’s the point. Sport has a creative function, based on mutual respect,” Mamiashvili told .
