“All bad things have happened.” Emelianenko on the hard preparation for the last fight in MMA

Former mixed martial artist Fedor Emelianenko said his preparation for the final octagon fight of his career initially did not go as planned.

In February of this year, Emelianenko spent his 48th and last fight in MMA, losing to an American ryan bader by technical knockout in the first round.

– I take this defeat calmly. Everything that could have happened during the preparation happened. Due to age, the body no longer pulled MMA. Time was not turning in my favor, the last contract with Bellator was significantly stretched due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, there were injuries. But I wanted to finish this whole story and I decided to fight.

I started training, increased my stamina, but got sick with coronavirus. More or less recovered – caught the flu. He started working out to get in shape – the hernia got worse. He fixed the hernia, flew to Bahrain for a visa – lost another week. He came back – again the hernia got worse. Also, I had to fly to Armenia to get a visa.

There were a lot of different little things. For example, just before the fight, I had already warmed up, I came to put on gloves to hit my paws, and in my equipment bag there are two gloves left. No one understood how it happened, and there were many similar nuances,” Emelianenko told MMA Hour.

Emelianenko spent 20 years in mma earned 40 wins and became the champion of the Pride, Rings, and WAMMA organizations.
