The unsuccessful rematch against the Ukrainian in August 2022 left an indelible imprint on AJ’s memory
Former world champion Anthony Joshua admitted that the most painful defeat in his career for him was a rematch against the world heavyweight champion according to WBA / WBO / IBF / IBO Oleksandr Usyk.
“The most painful defeat? Usyk-2. Yes, definitely,” admitted AJ.
“I respect Usyk. But that defeat was extremely painful.”
“It was weak. It was a weak performance on my part. In my head, I didn’t expect defeat.”
“It’s just… I give my life to this game. I give everything, I give a lot. Even talking about it now, I feel a lump in my throat.”
Recall that Oleksandr Usyk in his last fight again defeated the Briton, defending his belts. The Ukrainian will play his next fight against British heavyweight Daniel Dubois on August 26. The event will take place in Wroclaw, Poland, at the Tarczynski Arena. It was reported that Usyk would receive 75% of the total prize fund – $6 million. Dubois can count on 25% – 2 million.
Anthony Joshua will fight on August 12 against Finnish boxer Robert Helenius, who was urgently invited to replace Dillian Whyte, who failed a doping test. The event will take place in London at the O2 Arena. The fight will be broadcast via PPV system by DAZN.
AJ defeated American Jermain Franklin in his last fight in March. The fight lasted all 12 rounds.
