In an interview with journalist Ariel Helwani, the elder Emelianenko spoke about his desire to arrange a boxing match against Mike Tyson. Fedor noted that his team is working in the direction of boxing and has already sent offers to various promotions.
“Tyson is still training, he still has the same strength. It would be possible to fight in a tournament in Saudi Arabia on October 28. I would be interested, I would have prepared. I think there would be enough time to prepare”, Emelianenko spoke about a possible fight.
Fedor has long been talking about a boxing match. In 2021, the Russian said he wanted to step into the ring against Roy Jones. The American has also confirmed his interest in this fight, but only with good compensation. Emelianenko said he was offered this fight, but he declined.
“I would like to fight overseas. I’ve fought overseas most of my life. Yeah, and there’s no bias, and they won’t say I got sued, etc. .,” Emelianenko explained.
“Tyson and Emelianenko are two of the most recognizable athletes on the planet. I think the forces are about even, considering Tyson is 10 years older. This fight will spark interest around the world and popularize boxing and MMA,” Olympic boxing champion Evgeny Tishchenko said of a potential fight.
Emelianenko spent 48 fights in mixed martial arts during his career, during which he won 40, suffered 7 losses and another fight was declared invalid. In his last fight, Emelianenko met Ryan Bader and was defeated by technical knockout in the first round.
Tyson has participated in 58 fights during his professional career. 50 were victorious, in 6 fights the American was defeated and two fights were declared invalid. In August 1987, Mike beat Tony Tucker and became the undisputed world champion.
The duel will bring big costs to Tyson and Emelianenko. And fans will be happy to see their idols in such a status fight. Of course, the likelihood of this fight taking place is very low, but it cannot be completely ruled out.
