Bellator champion Nemkov moves up to a new weight class

Bellator Russian Light Heavyweight Champion Vadim Nemkov announced that he had decided to move up to the heavyweight division.

The Russian fighter plans to vacate the Bellator light heavyweight title.

– I talked to Fedor Emelianenko during the preparation of the last fights. We decided I was moving up to heavyweight.

I’m getting older and with every fight it’s harder for me to lose weight. For example, I felt comfortable when training with 103 kg. Now I feel more comfortable with 106-108 kg.

It’s a new challenge for me. I did my best at light heavyweight. Now it’s a new challenge to gain weight and get another title,” Nemkov quotes MMA Junkie.

Nemkov became the 2020 Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion. The 31-year-old Russian tops the Bellator rankings regardless of weight class.

The current league heavyweight champion is 40-year-old American Ryan Bader.
