“One way or another, guys use drugs” – ACA Vice President on Doping Testing

Aslanbek Badaev, vice-president of the Russian ASA League, answered a question from about the use of drugs prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Code by MMA fighters.

Currently, in MMA, only the UFC league uses a system of unscheduled anti-doping tests similar to that implemented in the Olympic disciplines. A number of organizations check fighters before or after a performance. Previously, Russian promoters have repeatedly pointed out that there is no doping control in the Russian leagues.

– How many ACA 161 main card fighters do you think will pass a clean doping test?

Let’s be realistic. We don’t hide it. It seems like a sensitive subject, but everyone understands everything. I won’t categorically say, “Is it possible to breathe like this for five turns without cultivating?” Probably some unique breathe. For example, Khabib. But I shoot in this area and communicate with the fighters. One way or another, guys use drugs. In addition, it should be borne in mind that there are other drugs that are not on the prohibited list, but have the same effect. Doping develops alongside the anti-doping system. So we decided, “Let’s put this drug on the banned list.” Lo and behold, now the fighter is a “chemist”, whereas yesterday he was not.

There are guys who get rid of amateurs. They believe in their function and form. And there are those who are addicted to drugs – they need to eat something just to be calm and know they are ready for battle, Badaev told .

Previously, Muhumat Vakhaev, a participant in the quarter-finals of the Grand Prix, offered his opponent Grigory Ponomarev to take doping tests before the fight on the condition that whoever presented a positive test gave the fee to the opponent. Ponomarev refused the bet.
