UFC American Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling says that his compatriot Sean O’Malley before their full-time duel avoids him and is afraid to look him in the eye.
Sterling will face No. 2-ranked bantamweight O’Malley in the main event of UFC 292 in Boston on Aug. 19.
“O’Malley doesn’t live in the same hotel as the fighters, avoids me, doesn’t want to look me in the eye. What’s up, what’s up – a few more days, and I’m gonna kick that profiteer’s ass. Which of the strong fighters did he fight? I’ll take it out on Sunday. No one will remember this fighter after my victory,” Sterling said at a press conference.
Sterling has successfully defended the title three times, most recently in May against American Henry Cejudo. He won the UFC bantamweight belt in his first fight with Russia’s Petr Yan in March 2021. O’Malley last fought in October 2022 when he defeated Yan by split decision.
