Strong words from the Ukrainian champion
Ukrainian boxer, WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO title holder Oleksandr Usyk spoke about his stay at the forefront and communication with the Ukrainian military, who protect our country from the Russian Federation.
“I lived with the soldiers. I spent some time with them. Of course, thanks to this I get more motivation. I get a lot of text messages from my fans, but I also get them from my friends who are on the front line. Sometimes when I’m on the phone with my friends, rockets explode and I hear bombings, then he says: “Brother, I’ll call you back if I survive.” Most of the time they stay alive.”
“In binoculars at a distance of 900 meters, I saw the fleeing enemies. I saw blown up tanks. I saw destroyed houses. I saw people without legs, without arms. And I also saw some people walking, but they seemed to me dead.”
“Then I was driving a car around the city – I realized that this is a dead city. I saw children’s toys. I saw children’s playgrounds, but it seemed to me dead. There was no energy in this city. One day I realized that in that place, on this earth, children were playing. But now he’s completely dead.”
“Some guys from the front said: “What are you doing here?” We don’t understand – why did you come here? Some generals won’t come here.” And I told them: “I’m not a general, I’m an ordinary Ukrainian guy.”
The Oleksandr Usyk Foundation held a charity evening with a charity auction in the USA. The main lot of the auction was a sculpture of a boxing glove, which was created by the famous Lithuanian sculptor Sigitas Sniras.
Usyk also became an ambassador for the UNITED24 program. One of the tasks of the Ukrainian boxer will be the direction “Restoration of Ukraine”.
Early on the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has been going on for 547 days.
