The parties have until September 5 to agree on the terms of the contract for the fight. If the boxers do not come to an agreement, after this period, the WBC will open bidding for the payment of the fee.

The WBC lightweight belt was held by Devin Haney. The organization declared the title vacant after Haney made the decision to fight Regis Prograis at junior welterweight.
