The Briton insists that he was deprived of a legitimate victory
British heavyweight Daniel Dubois demands a rematch with the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
“This mistake needs to be corrected. We need to go further. I should have become world champion right now. It wasn’t fair. This must be acknowledged and moved on from living this lie. They just cheated.”
“I definitely want revenge – to get justice. We worked in the gym for weeks and weeks on this kick. We dealt with the opponent, and this should have been our moment. It should have been a knockout. I feel empty. It wasn’t a low blow. I felt the blow go perfectly, hit him in the stomach. I know exactly when I’m going to throw a good punch.”
In the fifth round, Usyk was on the floor after Dubois hit the Ukrainian below the belt. The referee gave Alexander time to recover, after which the fight continued.
Dubois stated that the kick was clean and he was stripped of a legitimate victory. British promoter Frank Warren said he would seek the WBA to declare the outcome of the fight invalid.
At the end of the eighth round, Usyk knocked down Dubois, but the Briton managed to get up and continue the fight. And in the ninth round, the Ukrainian knocked out the Briton after another accurate blow.
After the fight, Alexander said that he intended to relax and spend time with his family. For his next fight, the Ukrainian challenged WBC champion Tyson Fury.
For the Ukrainian undefeated boxer, this victory was the 21st in the professional ring, the 14th time Usyk ended the fight ahead of schedule. Dubois suffered the second defeat of his career.
