The fight won’t take place before the end of summer
World Boxing Council (WBC) once again postponed the promotional bidding for the fight of the champion of the organization in the light welterweight division Josh Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) and challenger Jose Cepeda (35-2, 27 KOs).
Initially, the auction was supposed to take place on May 24, then the date was postponed to June 10 and 24.
Now the WBC has again shifted the trading date by a week, moving it to July 1st. In the case of successful negotiations between both sides, the fight between Taylor and Cepeda will not take place until the end of the summer.
In May, Taylor lost the undisputed world welterweight title. The Scot has vacated his WBA title by refusing to defend his title against Dominican Alberto Puello.
Taylor last fought in February, defeating Jack Catterall by split decision.
Cepeda holds the WBC Silver welterweight title, which he won in October 2020 after defeating Belarusian Ivan Baranchik. Since then, José has made three successful defenses against Henry Lundy, Josue Vargas and Francisco Pérez.
