The promoter intends to quickly appoint a fight between a Croat and a Ukrainian who wants to fight Fury
Head of promotional company Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn told when the fight between the mandatory contender for the IBF belt can be organized Filip Hrgovic and WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO title holder Oleksandr Usyk.
“This week, in my opinion, Usyk vs. Hrgovic will be scheduled. Usyk will now have the option to request an exception to fight someone else. The only person we can grant an exception to is probably Tyson Fury. But since Tyson Fury already has a fight scheduled, you can’t ask for that exception.”
“So I think we should just do it, set the fight for December. We love Hrgovic’s chances in this fight, he’s definitely improved in the last couple of fights. We are ready to arrange this fight, ”the promoter emphasized.
Immediately after Usyk’s victory over Daniel Dubois (Wroclaw, August 26), Hrgovic congratulated the Ukrainian, adding “See you soon.” Hrgovic’s promoter Kalle Sauerland believes that his ward has serious chances in the confrontation with Alexander.
Earlier, Hearn, also representing the interests of the Croatian boxer, said that Philip would insist on the mandatory defense of the IBF title. The Croatian is the official contender for the belt owned by Usyk.
Usyk’s promoter Oleksandr Krasyuk said that his team was ready to obey the IBF rules and fight against Hrgovic, however, he noted that the Croatian was not very popular, so he was not particularly interesting commercially and in the media as a rival to the Ukrainian champion.
Usyk himself has repeatedly stated that after Dubois he would like to fight Tyson Fury. Presumably, this fight can take place in early 2024. Negotiations between the parties are ongoing. Probably, the “Gypsy King” himself is less interested in this fight than the Ukrainian.
Fury’s next fight will be against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. The fight is scheduled for October 28 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Hrgovic defeated Australia’s Demsey McKean in his last fight on a boxing night in London at the O2 Arena. The Croatian retained his status as a mandatory contender for the IBF heavyweight title, which he won last August by defeating Zhang Zhilei.
