The Director General of the International Judo Federation (IJF), Vlad Marinescu, commenting on the chances of admission of Russian athletes to the World Championships in Tashkent, told that the organization wants to become a bridge for friendship and the sport.
The Russians performed at the Grand Slam Series stadium in Ulaanbaatar as neutral athletes. The tournament in Mongolia was the first for Russian athletes since the suspension due to the situation in Ukraine. The world championship in Tashkent will take place in October.
– What are the chances of Russian judokas to go to the world championships?
– First of all, judo is out of politics. The result that this team has shown here is very strong. The team demonstrated a high level of technical, physical and mental fitness. It will be great to see the team at the same level. The positive is also important, we hope judo will become a bridge for friendship and peace,” Marinescu said.
Russian judokas took first place in the medal standings at the tournament in Mongolia.
