United World Wrestling (UWW) has not allowed 26 out of 235 Russians and Belarusians to participate in the World Championship, according to the organization’s website.
The World Championship will be held in Belgrade from September 16 to 24.
“After extensive background checks by United World Wrestling and in preparation for the Senior World Championships, 235 individuals from Russia and Belarus were subjected to extensive background and social media checks. The roster included wrestlers of all styles and categories, as well as the supporting staff that accompanied them. Of the 235 names, 26 were deemed unacceptable, either because of active support for the ongoing SVO or because of their confirmed membership in the armed forces or national security agencies, the report said.
In April, the UWW allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions with neutral status.
