Peter Fury: It wasn’t a punch to the stomach. When you get hit in the stomach, it feels different compared to being hit in the groin.

Tyson Fury’s uncle and ex-coach is sure that the referee in the Usyk-Dubois fight made the right decision

Uncle and former coach of current WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury Peter Fury shared his expert opinion on Daniel Dubois’ scandalous strike in the fifth round of a recent fight with the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk.

“It was not a blow to the stomach. When you get hit in the stomach, it feels different compared to being hit in the groin. As soon as Usyk missed this blow, he bent over and cringed on the canvas in pain. You don’t react like that to a blow to the body.”

“I think I’m experienced enough to see what was there. This is how I saw this episode. And the referee immediately said that it was a low blow. So it doesn’t really matter what we think and do. The last word – for the third in the ring. We have what we have.”

At the end of August, Usyk knocked out British boxer Daniel Dubois in the ninth round and defended his championship belts. The fight took place in Wroclaw at the Tarczynski Arena. In the fifth round of the fight, Usyk was on the floor after Dubois struck below the belt to the Ukrainian. The referee gave Alexander time to recover, after which the fight continued.

For Usyk, the victory over Dubois was the 21st in the professional ring, 14 times the Ukrainian finished the fight ahead of schedule. The Briton suffered the second defeat in his career. The Ukrainian was recognized as the best boxer of August according to the World Boxing Association (WBA).

Usyk challenged WBC champion Tyson Fury for his next fight. Representatives of Alexander and the “Gypsy King” are negotiating a unification fight in early 2024.

Filip Hrgovic also claims to fight with Usyk. The Croatian is the mandatory contender for the IBF title.
