Boxers will determine the new WBC lightweight champion
Representatives of the ex-world champion in two divisions Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10 KOs) and an American boxer Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) agreed to hold a duel for vacant WBC title in light weight. Top Rank and PBC struck a deal hours before the WBC was due to open bidding for the fight.
The fight between Stevenson and Martin will take place on November 16 in Las Vegas or December 9 in New York. The fight will be the main event of the evening of boxing on ESPN.
The WBC lightweight belt was held by Devin Haney. The organization declared the title vacant after the American made the decision to fight Regis Prograis at light welterweight.
Stevenson is ranked second in the WBC rankings, the first is Vasyl Lomachenko. However, the Ukrainian decided to take a break and not fight in 2023. The third number on the list, Isaac Cruz, has his own plans for the coming fights. The applicant was Martin, who occupies the fourth position in the ranking.
Shakur defeated Japan’s Shuichiro Yoshino in his lightweight debut. Martin in the last fight defeated Artem Harutyunyan by unanimous decision.
