The Croatian boxer is now on vacation, but is ready to fight the Ukrainian starting in November
Mandatory challenger for IBF heavyweight title Filip Hrgovic turned to his likely opponent, the holder of the WBO / WBA / IBF / IBO titles Oleksandr Usyk.
“I’m ready to fight. Now I’m on vacation. On Monday I will start training again. From Monday give me 12 weeks and I will be ready to fight. November, December, January, February – any time.
“Usyk, I’m on vacation, but I’m thinking about you. We will meet soon, in December or January, and I will beat you. Sorry man. I will become the absolute champion, not you. I’m sorry.”
Earlier, the Croat told how he could defeat the Ukrainian champion.
Alexander wants his next fight against Tyson Fury, but Hrgovic is determined to use the right of the mandatory challenger. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, this fight could be arranged in December.
Usyk’s promoter Oleksandr Krasyuk said earlier that his team was ready to obey the IBF rules and fight against Hrgovic, however, he noted that the Croat is not very popular, so he is not very interesting in commercial and media terms as a rival of the Ukrainian champion.
Usyk re-defended his titles on August 26 in Wroclaw, knocking out British Daniel Dubois in the ninth round. The British boxer’s team filed an appeal against the result of this fight.
Hrgovic defeated Australian Demsey McKean in his last fight on a boxing evening in London at the O2 Arena. The Croatian retained his status as a mandatory contender for the IBF heavyweight title, which he won last August by defeating Zhang Zhilei.
