Wallin: It seems to me that Dubois’s blow did not deserve the reaction that Usyk showed

The Swedish heavyweight believes that the Ukrainian champion “made a molehill out of a molehill”

According to the Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallinaworld champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO versions Alexander Usik “replayed” after the scandalous blow Daniel Dubois in the fifth round. And the hit itself, according to the Swede, was “on the verge”, but still in the body.

“I think it was a blow to the brink. I don’t think it fell that low. It seems to me that this blow did not deserve the reaction that Usyk gave. I think it was a good body shot that shook him up. It wasn’t hitting the balls.”

“I think Usyk overplayed his hand. He was probably shocked by the blow. I think the referee did a bad job when he told him to take his time getting up. I don’t know why the referee made this decision. It was a little strange for me. To be honest, I don’t think it was too low. Maybe it’s a close call, but hits like this happen all the time.”

“Usyk has a tendency to complain a lot about body blows. I watched his fight with Gassiev, and in that fight he complained that Murat was hitting him in the body and touching his belt. This happens all the time in sparring and fighting. There’s nothing special about it, but Usik made a mountain out of a mountain.”

On August 26 in Wroclaw, Alexander Usyk defeated Daniel Dubois by technical knockout in the ninth round. The losing Briton’s team filed an appeal against the result of the fight, but Usik’s side is confident that it has no chance of success. The WBA promised to consider the appeal and make a decision in accordance with the regulations.

Wallin last fought in January 2023. The Swede defeated Helaman Olguin by unanimous decision. The 32-year-old heavyweight (25-1, 14 KOs) will return to the ring on September 30. The Swedish boxer’s opponent will be former cruiserweight world champion Murat Gassiev.
