Before the fight, the Australian was in sixth place and Volkov was one line lower. For the Russian, the fight with Tuivasa was an opportunity to extend his winning streak to three and improve his place in the rankings. Alexander finished his previous two fights ahead of schedule. Even though Rozenstruik and Romanov were clearly of a lower level, the fights ended in the first round.
Tuivasa, on the contrary, approached the fight after two defeats, both by knockout – against Cyril Gan and Sergei Pavlovich. In the second round, Tuivasa tried to win back and moved closer to Volkov, but this did not bring any benefit. The Russian attacked a lot, but Tuivasa took the blow with dignity. At the end of the second round, Volkov took a dominant position on the ground and performed a rare choke on Ezekiel. Tuivasa could not escape the grip.
