The promoter believes AJ will become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Eddie Hearn, the promoter of former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, has explained why the Briton wants to fight Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.
“I think if Joshua doesn’t fight Wilder and Fury, he won’t be happy and satisfied with everyone he fought. If he meets them, he will fight absolutely everyone in the division,” Hearn said.
“I’m Anthony Joshua’s number one fan. Call me delusional, but AJ knocks out Deontay Wilder and then knocks out Tyson Fury. He will become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and then we will sail off into the sunset. Like I said, call me delusional all you want, I don’t care what you call me. I see it. Let’s make this possible.”
Representatives of Joshua and Wilder are negotiating a fight at the end of 2023. According to Hearn, the fight could fall through if Saudi Arabia does not provide funds for the event. The promoter later confirmed that negotiations with boxing venue owners were ongoing.
Joshua knocked out Robert Helenius in his last fight, which took place on August 12 in London. Deontay’s last opponent was also Helenius – the American won by knockout in the first round.
Fury will fight former UFC champion Francis Ngannou on October 28 in Riyadh. The WBC granted Tyson special permission for this fight.
