American promotion UFC made a statement regarding the arrest of a Russian fighter Khusein Askhabov in Thailand.
In the media information appeared that Askhabov and his twin brother Khasan were arrested for organizing the kidnapping, torture and extortion of money from an Italian citizen.
“We are aware of the arrest and charges against Khusein Askhabov. We will continue to gather additional information about the incident. The UFC does not plan to make a statement until the trial concludes. His fight, scheduled for October 7, was canceled, the promotion said in a statement.
On October 7, Askhabov was scheduled to fight with US representative Daniel Pineda at the UFC tournament in Las Vegas. In MMA, Askhabov, 28, has 23 wins and one loss, which he suffered in his first fight at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in early 2023.
