President of AMC Fight Nights Kamil Gadjiev said press conferences before MMA fights would lose their appeal if regulations were introduced to minimize conflicts between fighters.
MMA fighter Shovkhal Churchaev was involved in a fight and was arrested by police on August 31 on the eve of a tournament in Moscow, where he was supposed to fight with Omsk fighter Artem Rofal. Churchaev attacked an MMA fighter from Azerbaijan who, taking the microphone at a press conference, challenged the Chechen athlete. Several dozen people took part in the massive brawl; police officers then arrived at the scene of the incident.
— If there is no buzz at conferences, they will disappear as a phenomenon. They will simply be uninteresting.
— So creating some sort of regulation is a dead end?
– Absolutely. Dead end. Yes, we need to set boundaries, because broken jaws and mass fights at conferences make no sense. But who will be responsible for this line? The whole attraction of such conferences lies in the fact that Sodom and Gomorrah takes place there. I have simply never done press conferences like this. I understand their appeal in terms of opinions, but I wouldn’t want to be in a situation where people are throwing poop on each other and doing things that you should just stand up and kill for. I just never wanted to be a part of it. Although you can have a press conference where everyone fights and quarrels. It’s gone for a million views. I have even attended such events when something was brewing, but tried to leave early. There was a good conference before the fight between Mineev and Ismailov, they didn’t fight, but tension was in the air. The guys made great jokes and made the event fun. But that’s acrobatics. Few people are capable of it.
– Although there was an event with the participation of Mineev and Ismailov, when a fight took place.
— More precisely, it all started with a fight. Thank goodness they published it. And the press conference at which Shovkhal Churchaev fights five times with the “Persian from Dagestan”… It’s cool to watch. But do I want to be part of the presidium at that time? No, I do not want. Many people don’t even understand what they are doing there and what they should do in this matter,” the correspondent of reports Gadjiev’s words.
