Russian Abasgadji Magomedov lost to American Vitaly Aroujau in the final of the World Wrestling Championship, which takes place in Belgrade.
The match took place as part of a freestyle wrestling tournament in the weight category up to 61 kg. The fight ended with a score of 10:9 in favor of Aroujau. Magomedov brought the Russian team the first medal of the tournament in Serbia.
The bronze medals in this weight category were won by Taiyrbek Zhumashbek uulu (Kyrgyzstan) and Shota Fartenadze (Georgia).
Magomedov had already won the 2021 World Championships in Oslo. The Russian is also European champion. Aruzhdau is the son of Soviet and Russian wrestler Vugar Orujev.
The World Championships take place in Belgrade (Serbia) from September 16 to 24. The Russians act in a neutral position. The tournament is a qualifier for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, but the weight category up to 61 kg is not included in the Olympic weight category.
