Tyson does not want to hold a unification fight
WBC title holder Tyson Fury stated that he does not plan to hold a unification fight with the world champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO in heavyweight Alexander Usik.
“I’m not interested in a fight with Usyk. He is a small Ukrainian boxer. That’s all he is to me.”
“I’m not interested in unifying titles, it doesn’t mean anything to me. All talk about this is empty talk.”
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was planned for April 2023, but it did not take place. According to the “Gypsy King”, this happened due to the financial demands of the Ukrainian.
Fury will fight former UFC champion Francis Ngannou on October 28 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The WBC granted Tyson special permission for this fight.
Usyk challenged Fury to a fight after successfully defending his WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF titles against Daniel Dubois. Negotiations between the parties continue, and January 27, 2024 is called a potential date for the unification battle.
The plans of the Ukrainian champion may be hindered by the IBF, which may nominate Filip Hrgovic as a mandatory challenger.
