Olympic freestyle wrestling champion, Russian Zaurbek Sidakov said he dedicated his victory at the World Championships in Serbia to his late father.
On Monday, Sidakov defeated American Kyle Dake with a score of 10:7 in the final of the Olympic category up to 74 kg. By reaching the final, he assured the Russian team an Olympic license.
– I am a man! I am a man! – shouted Sidakov while crossing the mixed zone after the victory.
— Zaurbek, is this your most difficult victory?
– Many things can be said. Today, God was on my side. I probably deserved this victory more than anyone. I dedicate it to my (late) father. He would be very happy. And my mother, who was very worried. Thank you to everyone who was next to me.
—How did you manage to defeat a rather strong American?
“I just wanted to dedicate this victory to my father, I had great motivation. I believed until the last moment that we would be allowed to participate in this World Championship, I did not give up and I worked to get there. Thank goodness everything went well. “I will train even harder and succeed,” reports the correspondent of , according to Sidakov’s words.
This is the third medal for the Russians at the World Championships. Previously, in non-Olympic categories up to 61 kg and up to 79 kg, prizes were won by Abasgadzhi Magomedov (silver) and Akhmed Usmanov (gold).
The World Championships in Belgrade will end on September 24. The Russians are participating in the tournament in neutral status.
