— At the World Championships, the final cannot be simple. The opponent is young, promising, yesterday he showed a very good fight. I was determined to give it my all in those six minutes. Not everyone has this chance to reach the World Cup final. Whether I will have such an opportunity again, I don’t know, only the Almighty sees.
I had such a responsibility – our team did not yet have a single gold medal. I wanted to go for it, win my first gold medal. It wasn’t difficult for me today, I didn’t even think I could lose to anyone here. There was not the slightest doubt about it. I knew so many people supported me, I believed I could make them happy.
— You said you wanted to move up to Olympic weight. Where exactly – above or below your weight?
– Standing, I have a lot of weight. 74 kg is one of the most competitive weights in Russia and the world. Maybe I can have 2-3 good fights at this weight, but there is also the Olympic champion (Zaurbek) Sidakov. It’s easy for me when I eat and fight with all my strength,” Usmanov told .
This is the second medal for the Russians at the World Championships. Earlier, Abasgadzhi Magomedov won silver in the non-Olympic category up to 61 kg.
