Sister Dubois: Daniel had a task – to get into the ring and not seek the favor of the referee. Unfortunately he couldn’t do it

“I don’t think it was a low blow. But I also believe that the referee is in the ring to make decisions. The referee’s decisions are not always correct. We saw this in the Rolando Romero fight and other fights. Sometimes these decisions are a little hasty, sometimes a little radical. Sometimes they are influenced by the audience and the specific moment.”

“I think it was Usyk’s moment. Everyone came there to cheer for him. Therefore, I believe that Daniel’s task was to go into the ring and not seek the favor of the referee, judges or anyone else. You had to go out there, rewrite the script and change your life. Unfortunately, he couldn’t do it, but it is what it is.”

In the fifth round of the Usik-Dubois fight, the Briton struck the Ukrainian in the groin area. Alexander fell to the canvas, the referee recorded a low blow, giving the Ukrainian time to recover. According to Dubois’ team, the shot was clean. Daniel himself believes that he was deprived of a legitimate victory and demands revenge.

The promoter of the British heavyweight Frank Warren immediately after the fight stated that the British team “will seek the WBA to declare this fight invalid.” According to Usik’s promoter Alexander Krasyuk, this appeal has “zero percent chance.”

At the end of the eighth round, Usyk knocked down Dubois, but the Briton managed to get up and continue the fight. And in the ninth round, the Ukrainian knocked out the Briton after another accurate blow.

For the Ukrainian undefeated boxer, this victory was the 21st in the professional ring, the 14th time Usik finished the fight ahead of schedule. Dubois suffered the second defeat of his career.
