Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin congratulated Russian freestyle wrestlers for winning medals at the World Wrestling Championships in Serbia.
— I am happy to congratulate Zaurbek Sidakov and Akhmed Usmanov on their championship, as well as Abasgadzhi Magomedov on his silver medal and Shamil Mamedov on his bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championship. Each medal is valuable for the national history of Russian freestyle wrestling and sports.
The wrestlers of the Russian national team, in fierce battles, brought our team four licenses for the Olympic Games in Paris out of six possible.
Under unprecedented pressure, our wrestlers demonstrate their tenacity, courage and skill level. Behind each medal, each victory lies a serious journey of athletes, coaches, specialists and the federation as a whole. I am sure that these victories at the World Championship will encourage many young Russians to engage in freestyle wrestling and not give up,” Matytsin was quoted as saying by the press service of the Russian Sports Ministry.
The World Championships in Belgrade will end on September 24. Russian wrestlers were admitted to the tournament by decision of United World Wrestling (UWW) in a neutral status – without national symbols, flag and anthem.
