British boxer Tommy Fury has revealed via social media that he was refused entry to the United States when he and his team tried to board a London-New York flight. Fury said he doesn’t know why these complications arose and his team is working to resolve the issue so he can face celebrity blogger Jake Paul in their scheduled boxing match on August 6.
My team and I arrived at Heathrow Airport this morning ready to take off and as soon as we entered the airport I was ruled out and Homeland Security told me that my ESTA (American Electronic Security System) travel authorization) had been refused and that I could not travel to the United States.
I can say that I did absolutely nothing wrong and I have no idea why I am not allowed to go to the United States. I would like to say that during all this time I did everything for the fight. I don’t know why I wasn’t allowed to fly.
So now I have to go to embassies and places like that to try to figure it out. I don’t know why it happened today, it’s a huge shock for me and my whole team. Obviously, this is a problem that needs to be solved. These are government issues. I’m just trying to solve this problem,” the boxer said.
TMZ reports that the reason Fury was refused entry was his family’s alleged ties to alleged crime boss Daniel Kinahan.
The fight between Paul and Fury was previously scheduled for December last year, but Fury pulled out due to injury and illness.
Tommy Fury is the brother of World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
