ONE Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champion Anatoly Malykhin admitted that he is looking forward to the main event fight of the ONE Friday Fights 34 tournament this Friday.
– This will be, in my opinion, the fight of the century for the whole world according to the rules of Muay Thai. I will just say that I have never looked forward to a standing fight so much,” Malykhin said in an interview with ONE.
On September 22, two Muay Thai superstars, Rodtang and Superlek, will face each other at Lumpini Stadium. Initially, the fight was announced as a title fight: Rodtang, 26, was to defend his belt against Superlek, the number one in the flyweight division. But Superlek could not meet the weight standard of 61.2 kg. The fight will now take place at a weight of 140 pounds and will last three rounds instead of the championship’s five.
This fight is a fight between two champions. Rodtang leads the flyweight division in Muay Thai, Seksan leads the flyweight division in kickboxing. Iron Man Rodtang twice won the prestigious Omnii Stadium Muay Thai title. He had 15 fights in ONE and only lost to Demetrious Johnson in a fight under MMA rules. Rodtang defeated Jonathan Haggerty and Tagir Khalilov; his overall record in Muaythai and kickboxing is 271-42. After winning gold in the flyweight division, he successfully led defense after defense.
Superlek has won the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing Championship twice and is still the champion. His professional record in Muay Thai and kickboxing is 135-29.
Malykhin has no doubt that the fight between Rodtang and Superlek will be spectacular:
– They are super fighters! These are two people who are always looking for a knockout and who demonstrate exceptional skill – a variety of strikes, knees, elbows. They are impenetrable fighters. I certainly won’t dare predict this fight – I’ll just be sick and enjoy this hellish fight. I like both fighters – grateful, with character, always show spectacular fights. I’m just going to watch this fight without giving preference to either one.
