The Ukrainian boxer’s former rival wants a chance to become a world champion.
Joe Joyce says he wants to fight Oleksandr Usyk. The former WBO heavyweight champion said he will ask for the fight if he defeats China’s Zhang Zhillei.
Let’s remember that the British boxer used to be a mandatory contender for the fight with Usik through the WBO, but unexpectedly lost to Zhilley. Today the boxers will have a rematch.
“Hopefully when I regain the title, my next opponent will be Usyk. But if you look at the current situation in the heavyweight division, I’m not one hundred percent sure. Definitely, after I get the title, I’ll be in a good position. It’s more likely to be a fight with Usyk,” Joyce told Sky Sports.
Note that Usyk and Joyce have already fought. This happened during the boxers’ performances in a semi-professional boxing series. Then the Ukrainian won.
Earlier, Joyce praised Usyk, calling the Ukrainian a boxer with an amazing mind.
