The Ukrainian knocked out the British boxer in the ninth round
Former interim WBO heavyweight world champion Joe Joyce believes that the British heavyweight Daniel Dubois had a chance to continue the fight with the world champion according to WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO Alexander Usikbut made mistakes due to inexperience.
“I think he could have gotten up, but he didn’t have time, perhaps due to inexperience. He was not ready for a fight of this level. Daniel could have counted to eight and gotten up instead of waiting until nine, ten. It was his mistake, but I don’t know, it’s hard to say.”
“But he’s young and I think he looked good in camp with new coach Don Charles. He looked like he had made some improvements in his speed, in his technique. But yes, he took a knee again after being hit.”
At the end of the eighth round, Usyk knocked down Dubois, but the Briton managed to get up and continue the fight. And in the ninth round, the Ukrainian knocked out the Briton after another accurate blow.
For the Ukrainian undefeated boxer, this victory was the 21st in the professional ring, the 14th time Usik finished the fight ahead of schedule. Dubois suffered the second defeat of his career.
Joyce will rematch Chinese heavyweight Zhang Zhilei on September 23 in London. Earlier, the boxers held an official weigh-in ceremony before the fight.
