Russian judoka Makhmadbek Makhmadbekov won a bronze medal on the Grand Slam stage in Baku.
In the consolation final in the weight category up to 73 kg, four-time Grand Slam winner Makhmadbekov met his compatriot. The main part of the fight ended in a draw; in overtime, Lavrentiev was disqualified for “diving” his head towards the tatami during a throw.
The Russians compete in the capital of Azerbaijan as neutral individual athletes.
