Warren: Referee didn’t properly instruct fighters on what he considered a low blow

Daniel Dubois’ promoter is still waiting for the WBA to set a date for the appeal

Frank WarrenBritish heavyweight promoter Daniel Duboisshared details of the essence of the appeal against the result of the fight of his ward against the world champion according to WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO Alexandra Usika.

The manager draws attention to certain nuances – from his point of view, the referee’s poor-quality instructions before the fight, as well as the fact that he gave the Ukrainian too much time to recover.

“We are still waiting for the WBA to set a date for the appeal. I saw that it was not a low blow. And the fact that the referee did not properly instruct the fighters about what he considers a low blow and where to hit is an indisputable fact. According to WBA rules, you cannot hit below the belly button. We filmed Don Charles, when the referee was giving instructions, drawing his attention to the height of Usyk’s shorts.”

“And one more thing: when the referee gave Usyk time to recover, after about two minutes he said that he wanted to continue the fight, but the referee told him: “No, no, rest some more.” What was it? It is not right. Worst case scenario, I would like to get a rematch,” Warren said.

The promoter had previously expressed confidence that the appeal process would not take too long. The WBA confirmed in early September that it had received Dubois’ team’s appeal against the outcome of the fight.

Let us remind you that Usik defeated the Briton on the evening of August 26 in Wroclaw by technical knockout in the 9th round. The judge in the ring was the representative of Puerto Rico, Luis Pabon.

In the fifth round, Daniel struck the Ukrainian in the groin area. Alexander fell to the canvas, the referee recorded a low blow, giving the Ukrainian time to recover. According to Dubois’ team, the shot was clean. Daniel himself believes that he was deprived of a legitimate victory and demands revenge.

Warren stated immediately after the fight that the British team “will seek the WBA to declare this fight invalid.” According to Usik’s promoter Alexander Krasyuk, this appeal has “zero percent chance.”
