The Briton intends to rest and plan his future path
British heavyweight Joe Joyce commented on his defeat in the rematch with the interim WBO champion Zhang Zhilei.
“Zhang is a great fighter and a great southpaw. He’s an Olympic medalist and probably shunned by many. So it was probably too much of a risk, I had to fight a southpaw and I haven’t done that in a long time.”
“I was concentrating on the punches he was throwing, I liked to get involved in the exchange of punches, but this is completely different. He’s a difficult fighter and maybe it’s just too much of a risk.”
“Maybe I could have gone a different route, but I decided to take on the challenge and paid the price. I still have a lot of fuel in the tank. So you will see me again.”
“I just need to rest a little bit, reflect, review the fight and then come back new and improved. I need to talk to my team and see what the best path is.”
Zhilei defeated Joe Joyce in a rematch that took place in London. Zhang knocked out the Briton in the third round.
Zhang and Joe’s first fight took place in April. The Briton lost by technical knockout and lost his WBO interim title. Joyce suffered both of his defeats from Zhilei.
