The promoter is curious about his protégé’s fight against the Chinese heavyweight, but the priority is Wilder
Promoter Eddie Hearn shared his opinion about the potential fight of his ward, a former world champion Anthony Joshuawith interim WBO heavyweight champion Zhang Zhilei.
“Of course, Joshua can fight Zhilei. AJ always liked this fight. He beat Zhilei in the amateurs, it was a good fight. Of course, we would arrange a fight between them in China. Money talks. We can organize a fight at Wembley.”
“We want to fight Deontay Wilder. I think Zhang is an easier opponent, but still a dangerous opponent. Why not?”
The primary task of Hearn and his promotion company is to organize the Joshua-Wilder fight. There are certain difficulties with this – the deal may fall through if Saudi Arabia does not provide funds for the event.
According to Hearn, it remains to decide on the location of the fight. The promoter says the Middle East is a priority, but other locations may be considered. The fight between the two world champions could take place either in December 2023 or in one of the first months of next year.
Joshua knocked out Robert Helenius in his last fight, which took place on August 12 in London. Deontay’s last opponent was also Helenius – the American won by knockout in the first round.
On the night of September 24, Zhang Zhilei knocked out Joe Joyce again in a London rematch.
