Russian WBC, IBF and WBO light heavyweight champion Arthur Beterbiev told reporters that representation under the Canadian flag was forced.
– It was forced. Once in his entire career, he performed under the Canadian flag. Before that, I always played under the Russian – I hope they will not judge me harshly, – said Beterbiev.
Beterbiev (18-0, KO 18) on June 18 in New York defeated American Joe Smith Jr. (28-4, KO 22) in the second round and added the WBO title to his WBC and IBF belts.
Originally from Dagestan, he has Russian and Canadian nationality. He entered the duel with Smith Jr. without a flag.
