A fight between the Gypsy King and the Australian champion could take place in the summer
WBC World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury addressed the IBF cruiserweight title holder Jayu Opetayaso that he could be the Briton’s sparring partner and help him prepare for a fight with the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO champion Alexander Usik.
The Australian boxer himself stated this, noting that he is determined to accept the offer of the “Gypsy King”.
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was planned for April 2023, but it did not take place. According to the British, this happened due to the financial demands of the Ukrainian. According to manager Egis Klimas, the Gypsy King team demanded too much, no matter how much Usyk compromised.
After this, Tyson, remarkably, negotiated with Opetaya about a joint fight, which could take place last summer in Australia.
Usyk challenged Fury again after successfully defending his WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF titles against Daniel Dubois. The potential new date for the unification fight is January 27, 2024.
Fury’s next fight will be against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou. The fight will take place on October 28 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. It is expected that after this the date of the Usyk-Fury fight will be officially announced.
