Athletistic/MMA. Number three in the UFC welterweight rankings, Khamzat Chimaev, has explained why he decided to renounce his Swedish citizenship. In his next fight, he will represent the United Arab Emirates.
“To everyone who says I left Sweden, I say I just moved to Dubai. Come to this city, my friends. Everyone is trying to make a big political spectacle of it, but it will be better for my career, for my training. It’s always nice here, you won’t freeze.
I will always respect Stockholm, it is my home and I will always return there. BUT I make decisions based on the interests of my career and my family – that’s the most important thing to me.
Everyone who supports me in Sweden, I respect you and I will fight for you too,” Chimaev said in a video posted on his social media page.
Khamzat Chimaev fought 12 MMA fights and won 12 victories. In his last fight, which took place in September 2022 at UFC 279, Khamzat defeated American Kevin Holland in the first round by choke. Today, experts and media expect that the Chechens will soon move up to middleweight.
