The Ukrainian judo team will not participate in the next junior world championship in Portugal due to the admission of Russian athletes, said the president of the Ukrainian Judo Federation Mikhail Koshlyak.
Earlier it became known that Russian athletes will participate in the Portuguese Odivelas tournament in neutral status. The national team at the championship will be represented by Timur Arbuzov (81 kg), Anzhey Pavlyukov (100 kg), Denis Batchaev, Dmitry Yakushev (both over 100 kg), Kristina Dudina (48 kg), Karina Efimova (52 kg) and Victoria Karsanova (70 kg).
— The Junior World Judo Championship begins in Portugal in two days, but without the Ukrainians. The International Judo Federation has approved seven Russian athletes to compete. Therefore, we refused to participate in the junior world championship. Our team will continue to prepare for the European Championship, European Cups and other important competitions,” Koshlyak wrote on the social network.
The World Championship will take place from October 4 to 7.
