Ukrainian judokas do not receive funding to participate in competitions in which Russian athletes participate, Mikhail Rakhlin, Honored Coach of Russia and President of the St. Petersburg Judo Federation, told .
President of the Ukrainian Judo Federation Mikhail Koshlyak previously announced that the Ukrainian team will not participate in the Junior World Championships in Portugal due to the admission of Russian athletes to the tournament.
— At first, Ukrainians generally refused to compete where our athletes were. Then their sports ministry allowed them to participate. But, as far as I know, what is happening in judo, Ukrainian athletes were allowed, but no one finances them, to participate in competitions in which Russian athletes participate. In general, it is in vain, of course, to refuse. In sports you can find a common language and, through sports, solve problems that diplomats and politicians cannot solve,” Rakhlin told .
Russian athletes will participate in the Junior World Championships in Odivelas, Portugal, in neutral status. The national team at the championship will be represented by Timur Arbuzov (81 kg), Anzhey Pavlyukov (100 kg), Denis Batchaev, Dmitry Yakushev (both over 100 kg), Kristina Dudina (48 kg), Karina Efimova (52 kg) and Victoria Karsanova (70 kg).
The World Championship will take place from October 4 to 7.
