Former coach Murata Gassieva Abel Sanchez told that the Russian boxer’s preparation for the fight with Swede Otto Wallin was poor.
On Saturday, Gassiev lost by split decision to Wallin. The heavyweight fight took place in Belek, Turkey.
— Unfortunately, from what I understood, the preparation was not ideal, there was no quality sparring to prepare for the highest level. Murat’s shots lacked speed, grip and precision. High-quality preparation is simply indispensable. People are at the highest level for a reason. And if you go out unprepared, your opponent is unlikely to be the same,” Sanchez told .
Former WBA and IBF cruiserweight champion Gassiev has 30 victories (23 by KO) and two defeats. Wallin has 26 victories (14 by KO) with a defeat in September 2019 against the current WBC champion, the Briton Tyson Fury. The last fight Gassiev prepared for directly under Sanchez took place in July 2018 against Alexander Usik.
