Froch: If Fury approaches the fight irresponsibly, Usyk will win by a comfortable margin

However, in optimal conditions, the ex-world champion prefers the “Gypsy King”

Former world super middleweight champion Carl Froch believes that the world champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO Alexander Usik will have a good chance against the WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Furyif the Briton approaches the fight insufficiently responsibly.

“I can make a case for Usyk beating Fury, he has the skill and ability and he’s used to fighting bigger guys since he moved up to heavyweight, he’s got a beefier frame, he’s put on a bit of weight and He seems to be able to control himself. But he’s getting older and slowing down a bit, just like Fury, so he can outbox, outwork and outskill the Brit.

“Will Fury be at his best? He gains weight between fights. He’s got a lot of belly fat, and if Fury doesn’t hit his stride, Usyk will step up and show the best result of his career. In this case, Usyk will win comfortably.”

“But I just think they’ll both take it seriously – and good Fury beats good Usyk in a good, very close and ugly fight. I think Fury will undo his work and tie him up. Fury’s size will be an issue. I don’t think Usyk will be able to stand up to Fury with his size.”

Previously, Froch advised Usyk to sparr with Vladimir Klitschko in preparation for the fight with Fury. The ex-boxer also criticized the “Gypsy King” for preferring exhibition fights to serious battles.

The conclusion of a contract between the parties of Usik and Fury became known on September 29. The preliminary dates for the fight are December 23 or January next year.

It is expected that the date of the Usyk-Fury fight will be officially announced after Tyson’s fight with ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou, which will take place on October 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
