“In the absence of Russian wrestlers, new leaders have grown up, we must restore our positions” – three-time Olympic champion Saitiev

Three-time Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Buvaysar Saitiev believes that Russia must restore its position in sport after national athletes were suspended from participating in international competitions.

Russian wrestlers participated in the World Championships in Belgrade in neutral status and won 5 medals out of 30 possible and 4 Olympic licenses out of 18 possible. The Russians won four medals and four licenses in freestyle wrestling.

“You understand that in our absence, new leaders have grown up and already feel more confident. We will therefore have to restore our positions. Thank God we have a new coach Khadzhimurat Gatsalov, Olympic champion, five-time world champion. Gatsalov is a very ambitious person, and we hope that he will prove himself, and our coaching team will draw the right conclusions from his performance at the World Championships in Serbia, and we will return to the Paris Olympics more prepared and restore our position on the international stage,” Saitiev told Metaratings.ru.
