Arum: I’m not happy with the premature announcement of the Usyk-Fury fight. But our partners decided so, they pay money

The network that finances it decided to announce the fight so early

Promoter Bob Arum expressed his attitude to the “premature” announcement of a fight between the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO title holder Alexander Usik and WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

According to the elder of the promotion workshop, this is the decision of the Saudi partners, who pay money and “order the tune.”

“The deal with the Saudis, Frank Warren and us is that they take our advice, but they invest money. And if so, they have the right to name the date, time and everything else. I’m not happy about the premature announcement. But then again, they know more than I do about what’s going on in the kingdom and so on, so we go along with it.”

“Could this announcement have waited until after the Fury-Ngannou fight? Certainly. But, again, they are investing money. Understand this. Are you asking why promoters do certain things? Because the network that put the fight on asked them to do it. And they pay money.”

At the end of September, it became known that Usyk and Fury signed a contract to fight for the undisputed title in the heavyweight category. It was reported that the fight is planned to take place on December 23 or January 2024 in Saudi Arabia.

Before the meeting with Usik, Fury will fight against Francis Ngannou. The fight will take place on October 28 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. According to Arum, the final date of the unification fight will be determined depending on Tyson’s condition after the fight with the former UFC champion.
