Athletistic/Boxing. World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Suleiman said that WBC, IBF and WBO light heavyweight (up to 79.4 kg) champion Artur Beterbiev is allowed to participate in international competitions due to of his long residence in Canada.

Note that Beterbiev has Canadian and Russian citizenship. Last year, the WBC refused to participate in organizing fights with Russian and Belarusian athletes.

“Arthur has lived in Canada for 15 years. He has a Canadian passport, a Canadian boxing license. His children were born in Canada. It’s a completely different story,” Suleiman emphasized in an interview with Boxing News.

Recall that Beterbiev’s next opponent will be the British Callum Smith. According to plans, the WBC, WBO and IBF light heavyweight title fight is expected to take place in the first half of 2024.
