The promoter criticized the representatives of the Croatian boxer
Frank Warrenpromoter of WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Furyreacted to the statements Eddie Hearnwho was unhappy with the IBF’s decision to approve the unification fight Alexandra Usika with the “Gypsy King” instead of holding a fight between the Ukrainian world champion and Filip Hrgovic.
“As I understand it, the IBF has approved the Fury-Usyk fight. If you’re going to have a unification fight that goes by their rules, there’s a process you need to follow. We got through it and that was it,” Warren said.
“Which fight is the most important? What fight was everyone driving us crazy about? Only God knows how long we tried to arrange it. Tyson’s fight with Usyk is a big fight. To organize it, we went through this process and got everything done. I’m sure everyone in boxing, with the exception of the people around Hrgovic and Filip himself, are happy about this.”
At the end of September, it became known that Usyk and Fury signed a contract to fight for the undisputed title in the heavyweight category. It was reported that the fight is planned to take place on December 23 or January 2024 in Saudi Arabia.
The winner of the interim fight between Usyk and Fury will be required to defend the IBF belt without any interim fights. Filip Hrgovic is the mandatory challenger for the IBF title.
